RECAP of All the Right Weaponry and She Versus I

On February 21st, 2014 - I had my first solo show ever. Well, kind of a solo show. More like mini solo show because I showcased my work with Stephanie Takemoto at Art Form Studio in the Art District of Downtown LA. I can't believe that in almost 10 years of showcasing my work as well as curating and producing shows, I never showed my work at this capacity before. I convinced myself that I was not ready and before you know it, time up and left.

2014 is the year of Yes and at times when the process of putting together 15+ pieces for the show, I have felt joy as well as the familiar state of uncertainty. But this time, fear did not win and Stephanie and I had a successful show.

The following pics are selected personal pictures of spirit family. I will in the near future post the pieces and discuss about each piece.

This night was a super duper important to me. It allowed me to break down walls and silence doubt. Nothing but upward movement from here on out

Microcosm: Artshow at Thumbprint Gallery

Group Show
"Microcosm"
March 10- April 8, 2012

I managed to triple book myself on March 10th, 2012. This is like the 5th time I have done to myself. Often times people approach me well in advance and they all sound good, so I answer with an enthusiastic "yes!"

I need to carry a calendar, or at least use the calendar feature of my iPhone.

One of the shows was the opening reeeption of "Microcosm" at Thumbprint Gallery.

I showed two older works and one new one for the show.

"Sometimes It Feels This Way"
Mixed Media on canvas
2012

This piece is influenced by the earlier piece I have done for the show at the Glasshouse in Pomona, "Part of your world." I want to be mindful to work in similar themes. This way, my work is not all over the place and can act like a series. It's good practice for me to focus on execution and critical thinking in painting a piece and also keeping in mind, having a good solid series of work for my portfolio.

You can check out the rest of the show with this catalogue.

(The coolest part of March 10th was, as I was the guest speaker for an all female panel board for the women in the Hip-Hop movement (which I will write later,) was being up on the stage and getting a text from the curator that one of my paintings was sold.)

In conjunction to our show was a solo show of Mr. DVICE who in a short amount of time, produced a series of work that was vibrant, beautiful, and impressive. He filled up the other half of the gallery and was a solid showcase.

My folks are making big moves this year! Anthony Thomas came off strong at this year's Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture; Manila Ryce has been doing more collaborations with Beatrock Music artists; Mark Canto did his second solo show in Jones Gallery in Long Beach featuring more than 130 new pieces. As for me, I now sit in the Board of Directors of an arts culture organization, dedicating in providing space and support for both emerging and established artists as well as passing our culture down to the next generation.

Well, here is the next big thing.. STUTER'S FIRST SOLO SHOW at Flock Shop  in Chinatown LA.

Not only is he one of my comrades and brothers but I am a huge fan of his work. Can't wait to see his whole body of work.

Come out and kick it with the best.
