TBT My Post Valentine's Day Feature at Truthseekers Radio

My spirit sister texted me this picture of Wonder Women and said it reminded her of me. She said I often make this face which cracks me up because I didn't realize that until recently. I also connect with this picture because I get busy often, hence, my sporadic entries.

So it's Thursday and I might as well make a throwback post.

I had my first mini solo art show at Art Form Studio in February. To ramp it up, my good friend Santana had me be a guest DJ the week before. How fitting that it is after Valentine's Day!
The host of Truthseekers Radio, Santana

Jehanne aka DJ Volare was one of the guest DJs in my art show so naturally, I asked her to play a set with me.

Countdown to the Strangelets album release

(work done for the Strangelets' album submission)

My boyfriend's band is being released in early 2013. Currently, they are working on the last two songs before they send it off to get mastered and then eventually printed and released. It's exciting to see a group's work turn into something tangible after months and months and months of preparation, rehearsals, rework, revision and recording. They put it so much work in this project and each of them busy with other personal things.

Back in the summer, the group turned to their artists friends to work on a potential album cover. I was blessed to have them pick one of my paintings as the cover of their EP, Heavy is the Heart.

I came up with a digital drawing, in hopes to capture the dream-like quality in much of the band's music. Sweet like lullabies, this collection of shoegaze songs has me daydreaming of laying on the beach, sea breezes wisping my hair as I look up at the stars and just take in their twinkles.

Sort of what I was thinking in my illustration, where the universe conspires to make dreams come true by setting the stage up. It's up to the dreamer to take the stand, walk up to that stage and burn like a supernova.

My submission to the project. However, they decided to use my boyfriend's picture for the cover. All good to me, as I am happy to have a personal piece done. I have been using all my creative skills at my design job that it was nice to let go and do something impulsive as the piece above.

Strangelets "Heavy is the Heart" EP

I am late with this post but one of my paintings is the cover of Los Angeles band Strangelets' 2012 EP release. They are hard at work in finishing their full length album set to be released in August/September.

An Indiegogo campaign will soon kick off to help press up some CDs.

Check out a couple of songs from the EP. I will also be posting up a couple of songs from last years' EP, Summer Forever.

All music is available at http://strangelets/bandcamp.com

Flashback: Zombie Art Show 2011

As promised, here are the pictures from the 2nd Annualy Zombie Art Show in Long Beach.. Yea, yea, yea, it's mad late. but I've been busy. ha!

Thanks to Jason L., who curated the show for having me showcase for the second year in a row.

Surprise appearance by artist Nic Cowan and Erika G.

Constant crowd of people coming in and out.

I didn't dress up for the occasion. yea, killjoy, right? The funniest part about the night is that if you were not dressed up like a zombie well then you get harrassed by the zombies. All I kept hearing was "braaaaaaains, braaaaaains." and they act like they  were going to chase me. Like this person here (see above.)

I loved this couple and their dog. I had to take a picture.

Yesenia's piece =)

This artist was amazing. Small canvas but he painted it using toothpicks.

Zombies Take over Long Beach

Jason Liwag and Garry Booth of Phone Booth Gallery are co-curators of this year's Zombie Art Show. This show was by invite only and I am happy and honored to be chosen to show this year. i am a huge fan of horror flicks and zombies happen to have a special place in my heart. (Not really. Like I wouldn't welcome one in open arms. I am the first to blast a shotgun to it's face.) But I digress...

This idea came from a friend of mine in the East Coast. She jokingly said I should do one of a zombie biting a boob. Ha! Okay, well I did and added a bit of a twist to it.

Come dressed as a zombie or bring a camera as hundreds take to the streets of Downtown Long Beach. Listen to live music. Check out the film fest. October 29, 2011. But also remember that the artshow will be free!
