on.rotation: the.virgin.suicides.soundtrack
on.my.lips: sippin' on some mint tea
on.my.head:his smile (but don't tell him that. it may just be soy vanilla candle)
on.my.feenin'.list: a hookah with a bowl of mango/berry flavored tobacco
i have decided:::...
paez suggested it first... vanessa suggested it last week... and they didn't talk about this. they came out on their own conclusion... that.. i ...should... host ... a .... salon at my house. except i should not call it a salon... phloe says i should call it instead a "shit-talking conclave", only because the word "salon" instills a bou-jiggy type of feel which makes her face cringe.
i think it is a great idea. it is a way for me to test my martha-stewart-wannabe tendancies and to promote discussion between folks. after yesterday's post, i realized that i need discussion. i need to hear not just from like-minded folks but to hear different view points to challenge my views, question my beliefs, and broaden my sight, or as shorty says, make my mind wide.
artists from the past have done it. writers have done it. philosophers have done it. why can't young urban professionals and artists do the same thing. i am blessed to be surrounded with very articulate, bright, knowledgable people. i get so much out of our one-on-one talks that i would love to see what would happen if i can get them all together at the same dinner table. who knows what the topic should be. it could be politcal, social, or maybe even be about art. i would probably be doing the initial moderating but once the ball is rolling, it's on.
afterwards, i can treat everybody to hazelnut coffee with some bailey's and kahlua or maybe a hit off the hookah with a bowlful of mango/berry tobacco. i don't normally smoke or drink but that would be the night where i would make that exception.

feeling kinda funky::..
well, it has happened. the republicans has taken over the house. i had a real meloncholy feeling when i was going to the ballots. don't get me wrong. it is my DUTY to vote but too many times before have propositions passed that shocked the living shit out of me. Prop 187... Prop 204. i was feeling like my vote is NOT heard. it is said that the voting turnout was at an all time low yesterday. wtf, people??? don't people know how important it is to vote LOCALLY? that is shit that directly affects us on a daily basis.
and look at the foolios i had to choose from. bill simon and gray davis. simon doesn't know ish and davis didn't do ish! i voted for camejo (spelled his name wrong earlier, shame on me) just to make a statement. dave here at work was telling me how gung-ho he was at wanting to reform california politics. simon refused to be in a political debate with him because he knew he would rip him to shreds.
so now the republicans have control of the congress. more backing for bush... yay.
there has to be checks and balances in our system. bush is already going ammock. so many people i talk to don't agree with (as kat puts it) the wrath of the rich white cowboy but why the hell is he getting more power and more backing?
on a lighter note::..
it is official. we now have an asian/pacific island radio show at kpfk 90.7!! ((( doing the dance))). how exciting is that??? it comes right after the divine forces show which targets progressive to open to progressive hip hop heads. i went to the meeting last night so we can talk about the format of the show. it was frustrating because here we have a blank canvas, a very very very powerful vehicle, and we all have so many ideas. in the next few weeks, we shall be fine tuning the show. last week was the first show. phloe did a great job hosting the show! bambu was there as the guest artist! kat was there too and they all said it was sooo much fun.
we are all planning to be there on friday night as well (more like saturday early morning) so tune in....90.7fm at 1am-3am right after divine forces! ashkan and i will definitely roll up to the spot!!!

my weekend synopsis:::...
1. the performance at the j paul getty museum was magical. here we are, LA Enkanto, performing at this 2 billion dollar venue. the theater was so beautiful and the people we worked with (the producers, stage manager, techs, director) were so professional and friendly. we packed the house! sold out show! they totally loved us and want us back for future venues.los angeles poetry is being heard! correction: los angeles poetry from FILIPINOS is now being heard! photos will be up soon.
2. saw frida with don and dj on saturday. (the company don works for worked on the the movie). it was superb! salma was excellent as frida! i loved how they implemented her paintings into the storytelling. some people didn't like it as much but i think that it was subtle enough to convey the connection to her life without being too tacky. the cinematography was excellent as well.
3. i was so inspired watching frida that i changed into my painting clothes and stayed home saturday night to paint. i sometimes get intimidated to paint because if i am not happy with my piece, i felt of i have desecrated the canvas. but after watching the movie and (remembering what i have read on her and diego's biographies) i realize that i should just paint just to paint; let the painting come to fruition. i started a new four part series (even though i should finish my other series) and i can't wait till i piece them together.
4. after talking to irene , i have decided to take a class in filmmaking. phloe and i have a few things up our sleeves that we want to do.
5.had a couple of business meetings this weekend. yup, alfie has nailed a couple of freelance jobs! wooo hooo!
6. i am helping the book release party for monster. let's just say that it will not be your typical book release/reading event. i will explain more later. (wink wink)
thank you so much for my friends and family who have been so supporting and encouraging with my art. i am so truly blessed to have you in my life... (heavenly father, i praise you and exalt your name to the highest.) really, i have been blessed with some awesome comrades.
