"Living the (Mr.) Charmed Life
11"x14"
Mixed media on Canvas

A new movement for women was on the uprise in the 1920s and they were called Flappers. They were considered rebellious  and challengedd social norms and expectations of women in that era: they drank, smoked, wore makeup, got tattoos, voted and went to school. In "Living the Mr. Charmed Life," I painted a woman, wearing a fox stole, which is not dead but alive and flattering her. The metaphor of a woman providing for herself and the fox wrapping around her also symbolizes her as coming full circle and embracing herself.

=======================

This piece is donated for an art auction this Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Jones Gallery in Bixby Knolls of Long Beach. Derekstar is an art collective who have been providing space and workshops for artists. They also have been doing outreach and community building by hosting art classes for disadvantaged communities.

The group had the misfortune of having their equipment stolen right before their trips to Japan and Korea, where they are going to assist artists.

Abs of Cakes  will be there! Vintage Remade will also be there with upcycled goods.

If you are an art collector, come on out and grab works from Camille d'Errico, Jerrel Conner, Anthony Montemar, and more!

Come dressed in that era... more importantly, just come! Art, Food, Live Music and Good People...
