how do you spend your spring equinox weekend? well, let me tell you

on friday, you can perform a spoken word piece with a friend doing modern dance while another friend plays the kulingtang

check out joy mallari's work in a collaboration exhibit being shown at espresso mi cultura.

then on saturday morning, you can voice your opinion at a peace rally, a year after the bush administration declared war and attacked iraq

things are pretty calm and peaceful. until the police in riot gear was mobilizing. from time to time, you would see a group of lapd running and it would agitate some of the walkers. johne. did a good job in calming the crowd. "don't fall for their tactics. keep it peace. do not provoke them. we have children and elders walking among us. keep it peaceful."

then at night, you can go to highland park and kick it at the hip hop freedom concert and watch your peeps perform

and then you get silly

and you start taking pics in between sets

d-lo was hosting. there was some lag time in between sets so kublai and her made an executive decision to put me on. so there i was, cold, no run thru. and it showed. i fugged up TWICE!

but d-lo cushioned the blow and i was able to spit out something. it was embarrassing! completely blank. my only saving grace is that most of the kids found me endearing enough to see me as a comedy relief. that or they were happy stoned and thought anything that i did was endearing.

but faith and cheryl did a great set.

then on sunday, you have a girls night out
or at least try to have one. that phrase is much more different than it was 10 years ago. yea, life was blissful when you live in the matrix. after college, all you do is go to work, work out, then party. a lot of us do so much in our day to day lives, that simply hanging out is a bit more difficult. some of us are tired from putting over time at work, some of us are mothers, some of us had rehearsals.

i am blessed to be surrounded by creative and strong women on the daily but sometimes, it would be nice to hangout with out pressures of putting on an event, work, or performance.

so we went to C&O

and you order their stuffed mushrooms. yu mmmmmmmm!

and you throw your hands in the air...

and then you bump into your homeboy from poorhouse projekts in town from tour, fucking shit up at the temple bar

and then life is good. as it always has been. HAPPY SPRING EQUINOX!
